Scholarship

Img 1As it enters its 108th year, Town and Gown of USC is proud to offer over 175 merit based scholarships – totaling close to $1,300,000 - to deserving incoming freshmen and current undergraduate, and graduate students.  Scholarships range from $6,000 to $10,000, are awarded annually, and are for tuition only. 
In addition, we are pleased to announce the continuation of our Competitive Scholarships Program.  This year the Competitive Scholarships Program gifts one incoming freshmen $10,000 annually, toward tuition, for their four years of undergraduate study.  The next Competitive Scholarships will be awarded to the incoming freshmen of the 2012-2013 class.
Qualified applicants must meet all eligibility requirements listed below.  Please note an in person interview is a prerequisite for scholarship consideration.

Town and Gown of USC Scholarship Eligibility Requirements
Applicants are required to:

  • Be a United States citizen.  Permanent residents do not qualify.
  • Be a resident of Southern California.  Bakersfield is the northern most boundary.
  • Demonstrate academic strengths, leadership, and community involvement.
  • Be full-time students.  Undergraduate students must carry 12 to 18 units and achieve degree completion within 4 years.  (Some schools are on a 5 year plan.)  Graduate students must be full time and carry 8 or more units per semester in a Master’s program and and 6 or more units per semester in a Doctoral program. Tuition remission disqualifies the applicant.

Categories of Applicants
Incoming Freshmen:  Incoming freshmen must have taken the most demanding curriculum and achieved the highest academic levels during their high school careers.  SAT and ACT scores must fall in the top 2% to 3% of students nationwide.  The recommended un-weighted GPA is 3.8.  School activities, community involvement, and leadership are considered in the award process.
Current Undergraduate Students:  Current USC undergraduate students who are applying for the first time, and have maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.5, are eligible for scholarships.
Current Graduate Students:  Current USC graduate students who are applying for the first time, and have maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.5, are eligible for scholarships.  Applicants must be admitted to a graduate program to be considered.

Restrictions
Town and Gown of USC members are ineligible for Town and Gown scholarships.  However family members of Town and Gown members (children, grandchildren, etc.) are eligible.
Family members of the Town and Gown of USC Scholarship Committee and the Town and Gown Board are ineligible for Town and Gown scholarships.
Scholarships are for tuition only.
Tuition remission disqualifies the applicant.
All scholarship recipients must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 while attending USC as a Town and Gown Scholar.
